Are You Grounded?

We may have a lot going on in our personal lives which cause our stress levels to elevate. Add to that what is going on in our world and the levels increase even more so.

When we are experiencing feelings of stress, upset, anger, frustration or some other emotional form, we are ungrounded. Meaning our soul is not connected to our body. We are not experiencing in the 'now'. We are off thinking about other things. Being Ungrounded is usually a negative, but that is not always the case. Sometimes we are just off...somewhere else in thought, moving along in a daze, not paying attention. We experience Mental fogginess.

Anchoring your roots to the earth's healing energies can be achieved by learning how to relax and maintaining a balance within our physical and spiritual bodies. See my post on Balancing Your Chakras:Root. Have you ever been stressed and found yourself working out in your garden or felt the need to plant? Your hands working the earth, the soil. You are really grounding yourself. After you are done with this task, do you feel better? I know I do and enjoy working with soil, plants, even weeding.

We are spiritual beings, but sometimes we neglect our bodies. We need to care for the container of our spirit. Grounding brings to us health and well being. Usually grounding oneself can be done with visualization. See the exercise within the mention post Balancing Your Chakras.

Other Ways to Ground Yourself:
1) Learn to mediate, focus on your breathing. Inhale and exhale in a balanced rhythm. Be aware of this rhythm. Focus on the way you are breathing. This will bring your to the 'now'
2) Visulaize the color red. This color is associated with the root chakra.
3) Imagine you are wearing red shoes or slippers. Seeing red on your feet will remind you to stay grounded and bring your attention back to your physical self.
4) Hug a tree. Trees have deep roots
5) Imagine yourself as a tree and see your feet as roots deeply planted in the ground
6) Seating in a chair with both feet on the floor, your spine is straight. You are aware of your entire body in this position. Rest your arms on your thighs or on the arms of the chair. Notice your posture. You will feel strong and at ease. Allow the energy to flow through your entire body.
7) Saying Grounding Statements: If you are feeling stressed or another negative feeling, repeat to yourself...this feeling will pass, I feel strong and safe. Come up with your own grounding statement and repeat it to yourself or say it outloud.
8) Dance or sing a song that makes you feel good
9) Stump your feet. Feeling the power in your legs as your feet hit the ground.
10) Carry a smooth stone. Sometimes referred to as a 'worry' stone.

Create your own state of calm and comfort. Ground away those negative energies and bring awareness to your body.

Protect Yourself With Disease Fighting Foods

Eating just 2 grams per day of foods enriched with sterols and stanols can help prevent heart disease and lower your cholestrol.

What are Sterols and Stanols?

They are found naturally in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cereals, legumes, and vegetable oils.

According to Wikipedia, Plant sterols are known to block cholesterol absorption sites in the human intestine thus helping to reduce cholesterol in humans. In humans, sterols act to provide important signals and metabolic communications eg. circadian rhythms, blood clotting.

Studies have indicated that consumption of about 2 grams per day of stanols provides a reduction in LDL cholesterol of about 10%. The compound itself passes through the gut without entering the the blood stream or lymph. Its presence, however, reduces both the amount of cholesterol the body absorbs from food.

There has been studies which indicates there is a chance that sterols can interfere with the absorption of some carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, which your body uses to make vitamin A, so if you do eat sterols, eat servings of vegetables rich in bete-carotene aslo:carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, and dark leafy greens

How Should You eat Sterols and Stanols?

Eating just 2 grams each day is sufficient. Eating more actually counter acts the positive results. If you are already consuming foods enriched with sterols and stanols, eat those instead of eating additional foods.

Some Foods that Contain Sterols:
Corn oil, sunflower oil, beans, corn, peanut butter, olive oil, almonds, oranges, apples, avocados.

The Smell of Rain

This is one of my favorite stories. It touches my heart each and every time I read it. I hope it brings you some inspiration...

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallas as the doctor
walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing.
She was still groggy from surgery.

Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest news.
That afternoon of March 10, 1991, complications had forced Diana,
only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver
couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already
knew she was perilously premature. Still, the doctor's soft words dropped
like bombs. "I don't think she's going tomake it," he said, as kindly as he could.
"There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then,
if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one"
Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the
devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived.

She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably
be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions
from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation and on and on.
"No! No!" was all Diana could say. She and David, with their 5-year-old son
Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to
become a family of four.

Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away.
But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana.
Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system was essentially 'raw',
the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort,
so they couldn't even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests
to offer the strength of their love.
All they could do, as Dana struggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the
tangle of tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay close to
their precious little girl. There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew
stronger. But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here
and an ounce of strength there.

At last, when Dana turned two months old, her parents were able to
hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly
warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of
normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital,
just as her mother had predicted.
Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with
glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life.

She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or physical impairment.
Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy
ending is far from the end of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in
Irving, Texas,Dana was sitting in her mother's lap in the bleachers of
a local ball park where her brother Dustin's baseball team was practicing.

As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other
adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent.
Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, "Do you smell that?"
Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm,
Diana replied, "Yes, it smells like rain."
Dana closed her eyes and again asked, "Do you smell that?"

Once again, her mother replied, "Yes, I think we're about to get wet.
It smells like rain." Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head,
patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced,
"No, it smells like Him.

It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest."
Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play
with the other children. Before the rains came, her daughter's words
confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family
had known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months of her life,
when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her,
God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she
remembers so well.

Holistic Approach to Menopause

Each Woman experiences menopause differently. Usually starting around age 52, some experience symptoms in their 30's right into their 60's. Perimenopause is usually the 2-5 years beforehand, but during this time it can be dramatic or simple for women.

It's a rocky road of hormones and emotions. Symptoms can be in the form of hot spells, insomnia, mood swings, sweats, heart palpitations, risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, weight gain, irregular periods with some heavy bleeding. With some women trying to alleviate symptoms, they actually cause a greater hormone imbalance by seeking some form of medical treatment.

Good news ladies ! this phrase does come to an end...however with so many of us working so hard at full time jobs in and out of the house and caring for family...we have little time for 'us'.
We're burning out our hormones and we need some hormones to deal with this time in our lives. Our hormones are actually resetting for the second half of our life.

Some natural ways we can help ourselves. Adjusting our diet to be more healthy, exercise exercise exercise!, develop regular sleep patterns. A simple detox program to flush away years of built up toxins in our bodies.Taking a good multivitamin with some herbs and oils.

Examining our feelings with regards to family and relationships. Changing hormones can bring about moods of anger and you don't want to lash out at people. Come to terms and release some feelings before they turn into negative angry energy.

When I last went to my doctor, it was suggested I take Premarin. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I know this is a horse estrogen made from a pregnant mares' urine. Natural they say? What on earth is natural about putting horses estrogen in my body???

There are other alternatives. Along with what was mentioned above, acupuncture, NATURAL hormone therapy (HRT) and acupressure are some to consider. My brother is a massage therapist and often deals with patients experiencing menopause. He applies pressure to certain points on the body (hands/feet) to stimulate the ovaries, uterus, adrenal, pituitary, thyroid and parathyroid glands to balance hormones and reduces hot flashes. I'm lucky to have a massage therapist in the family. I get free treatments!

Another alternative is taking soy. Dealing with hot flashes? Revival Soy can help. An interesting fact is that soy consumption may actually help hot flashes and reduce your risk of high cholesterol, heart attack or even strokes. In my research of soy products, I learned that approximately only 30% of Asian women experience hot flashes. It appears their high intake of soy can be contributing to the reduction of symptoms.

I myself had started taking soy at the recommendation of one of my blog readers because she did say it helped her. I've been taking it for a few months now and I haven't had any trouble with hot flashes or night sweats.

Be sure to talk to your physician. Someone you trust and can freely speak about menopause, the symptoms and treatments.

WHAT HAPPENS IN HEAVEN

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, "This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received."

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.

The angel then said to me, "This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them. "I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. "This is the Acknowledgment Section," my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed "How is it that there is no work going on here?" I asked.

"So sad," the angel sighed. "After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments."

"How does one acknowledge God's blessings?" I asked.

"Simple," the angel answered. Just say, "Thank you, Lord."

"What blessings should they acknowledge?" I asked.

"If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy."

"And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity."

"If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day."

"If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are ahead of 700 million people in the world."

"If you can attend a church without the fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world ."

"If your parents are still alive and still married ...you are very rare ."

"If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're unique to all those in doubt and despair."

Ok, what now? How can I start?

If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you as very special and you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Alternative Therapy

Chronic Fatigue is described as persistent and severe fatigue. You may encounter difficulty sleeping or concentration, experience a sore throat, depression and muscles or joints that ache.

Although the cause of Chronic Fatigue is still not clear, many people who suffer from this syndrome have a had time finding a Doctor who understands this syndrome. There really isn't any conventional treatments and doctors tend to prescribe antidepressants and anti- inflammatory drugs.

If you do not want to be on a prolonged period of taking drugs, you may want to consider alternative treatment. These treatments can also be used alongside conventional medicine.

Chiropractic is used to un obstruct flow of nerve impulses from the brain through the spinal nerves and throughout the rest of the body. The thought is when there are misalignments, there is interference with the transmission of nerve impulses and is often felt as pain. The chiropractor 'adjusts' the patient back to normal.

The use of Physical Therapy/Massage and exercise can bring about movement which is needed for overall well being. A low impact routine can help you face your daily life when experiencing symptoms of Chronic Fatigue.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese remedy for treating pain. Inserting microthin needles into acupuncture points, can provide immediate relief. Another acupuncture method is 'cupping' which uses small glass jars to draw additional blood supply to an area and helps relieve muscle tension.

Using a natural healing system and diet are others ways to approach the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue. When I say natural healing, I am referring to your healing abilities without the use of drugs. Herbal remedies, yoga, mediation, positive thinking.
Your diet should exclude sugar, caffeine, alcohol, saturated fats, dairy and gluten containing grains.
Eat more healthy and include more vegetables, legumes, whole grains, protein, essential fatty acids (nuts, seeds, cold water fish). Red meat should be eaten in moderation.

You should remember that if you suffer from Chronic Fatigue, you are not alone. It may help you to talk with others who face the same challenges.

Keeping your Chakras aligned is important in your body functioning on an energetic level. When you have one or more out of balance, the other Chakras are working overtime and that is not good. Has your body ever felt tight or cluttered?
You may need to Unblock your Chakra to feel refreshed, Release tension and fatigue,Get back your energy after being "stuck in a rut", Feel more spiritual and "in line" with the world

Balancing Your Chakras Using a colored bath:
Sitting or laying down, inhale 3 times through your nose, release through your mouth. Picture white light (of God or the Uninverse) swirling around you in a counter clock wise motion. See the light start at your feet, going to the top of your head.

Next you will use the 7 colors associated with each Chakra as explained in the 7 areas of Chakras above.

Above your head, picture a purple light swirling around in a counter clockwise motion, then clock wise. If it feels 'stuck' keeping trying...picture the light moving from your head down to your toes and then back up again.
Next colors to use are:
indigo
light blue
pink or green
yellow
orange
red

At first, you may have trouble seeing the moving light, don't give up. This just means you are out of balance. This meditation should begin to bring in healing colors and light into your spiritual being to help you to cope and deal with different aspects of your life in a more meaningful way.

Remember to eat the foods that feed your Chakras.

Another way to balance your Chakras is by using Binaural Beat CD recordings. The binaural beats will automatically begin affecting your brainwaves by aligning and balancing. All of your seven Chakra points are touched.

Do You Over Analyze?

One of the differences between the sexes is how negative emotions are handled. Men usually like to avoid them and women... don't.

In fact, women get stuck in negative emotions and almost cause a downward spiral. According to psychologist Susan Nolan-Hoeksems, women are twice as likely to develop depression than men. Her findings also include that women are more inclined to over analyze about the stressors and disappointments they encounter to the point of getting stuck there. They focus on the distress and possible causes, over and over and over.

In repeatedly going over negative thoughts and feelings, we examine them, question them...actually creating the problems to swell in size. When we analyze like this, it just makes life harder.

It seems when we have a pause in life, we fill this space with things to worry about. What this does is suck our emotions right out of us, our energy level is low and we can start to feel overwhelmed.

Women can worry about...almost anything! Appearance, family, health, their jobs, friends, relationships, money...

I have found when I lapse into my over thinking ways, I just ask myself one question, which leads to another, then another...having said that...this then leads into the expansion of the situation into another situation, then another. At times this creates a scenario in my head, that I actually can talk myself into thinking is true, when in reality, it isn't.

Many women analyze and obsess about relationships. Why? Because they are important to women. What we do though, is torture those around us. Constantly looking for reassurance, questioning, looking for support. This often creates an unpleasant atmosphere and what we are craving from those around us, we don't receive. We get less...it makes others not want to be around.

Of course, some situations requires over thinking and is quite natural, but when it becomes obsessive, that's when we have to learn to stop.

How can we overcome over thinking?

* Be aware and understand that over thinking is not giving you insight, but clouds your mind.

* Use positive distractions and get your attention away from the over thinking. Read, take a walk, watch a movie

* Exercise

* Repeatedly tell your self to STOP when you catch yourself over thinking

* Make a conscious decision to not allow your over thinking or negative thoughts control you

* Write down your thoughts. Keep a diary

* Listen to music, dance...
